Woven Teaching is looking for experienced teachers and/or curriculum developers to create original teaching materials, review existing lessons and educational materials and facilitate educator workshops. Woven Teaching’s  focus is creating materials for use with high school history or social studies students. We are currently seeking consultants for three different roles. Interested applicants should clearly state which of the three roles they are applying for and are welcome to indicate interest in more than one role.

Curriculum Authors/Creators

Consultants will write new classroom lessons around topics relevant to protecting and promoting human rights. This will entail working closely with Woven Teaching staff, learning  Woven Teaching’s methodology, and creating dynamic and learner-centered lessons. The process will include brainstorming ideas with Woven Teaching staff, creating a detailed outline for the lesson, and once that has been approved, writing the lesson (including guiding questions, activity instructions, writing prompts and introduction and closing activities). Consultants will receive authorship credit for lessons created.

Curriculum Reviewers

Consultants will review and evaluate existing lesson plans and provide feedback about clarity of objectives, pedagogical soundness, sensitivity to issues of identity and culture, and relevance and interest to teachers and students.

Workshop Facilitators

Consultants will lead or co-lead (with Woven Teaching staff) workshops for educators in the Bay Area or lead or co-lead virtual workshops.Consultants will observe a Woven Teaching workshop or presentation (in person and/or virtually) and learn more about the methodology and Human Rights Educational principles of Woven Teaching’s materials. Consultants will work with Woven Teaching staff in mock presentations to practice and become more familiar with our work. These workshops will be held throughout the year based on clients’ needs.

Applicants for the workshop facilitator contract role must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area or nearby. The other two roles are welcome to be remote, and most of the work will be completed asynchronously, provided that the applicant has some availability to attend meetings and trainings in the Pacific Time Zone.

All three of these positions will be short-term contract positions for approximately 20-40 hours, with the possibility of adding  additional hours.. The majority of the curriculum development and curriculum review will occur during the summer (between early May through the end of August) with the potential for extension into the Fall and Winter should there be mutual interest and needs. We anticipate each lesson requiring 20-40 hours to create and there is an option to create more than one lesson, depending on contractor availability and quality of work. The Workshop Facilitator position would be an ongoing hourly contract position. Tasks can be done remotely (with the exception of in-person workshop training and facilitation) and can mostly be completed asynchronously. The compensation is $100/hour.
